Dry fitting the tree portion of my Windswept Pine artwork 🌬️🌲

This artwork is based on an iconic pine tree in Killbear Provincial Park (Ontario). The tree sits on the edge of Georgian Bay, taking quite the beating from the intense wind coming over the lake... all year round for 100 years.

The scene perfectly highlights both the sheer power and the adaptable resiliency of nature.

I started the art piece back in the summer of 2021. My initial impulse was to find beauty, inspiration, and to cultivate acceptance for where I was in life.

It's funny to look back and see how much shifted in my life after making that internal shift.

Life really opened up when I stepped into acceptance and gratitude, focusing on the beauty around me... and let go of trying to force my way through life, controlling and resisting "what is", no matter how undesirable it may feel at times.

This is still a helpful reminder for me most days!

Feels incredible to have woodworking back in my life! Very grateful these days.

There's something special about the ability to work with your hands and have your sense of time disappear.

To be so enthralled with what you're doing that Life seems to work through you, moving as you... Where the sense of "doership" or separation from the world around you falls away.

Sometimes I'll walk into the shop and be caught up in all sorts of thoughts, stories, concerns, or a myriad of uncomfortable emotions.

But as I work it all seems to unravel, seeing the layers unpeel back to the place of awareness behind it all.

Back to peace and acceptance.

To gratitude and trust.

A return to curiosity and playful creation.

Seriousness, concerns and to-do lists dissipate.

It feels like a return to my natural state. Back to seeing and appreciating the bizarre, beautiful mystery of Life. Back to love and presence.

And honestly othertimes it can feel like pure and utter chaos, getting slapped around by Murphy's law... Which is always a good sign to spend some more time outdoors 🤣🤷‍♂️
